Plate antenna, uses passive component facing radiating element with electromagnetic rather than mechanical coupling to simplify construction

The antenna has a ground plane (10) facing a radiating element (12). A passive component (16) facing the radiating element ensures electromagnetic coupling, removing need for a mechanical link. The passive component is electrically insulated from the ground plane and can be electrically connected to the antenna feed point. There is no short circuit between radiant element and ground plane.
