A tuneable laser amplifier with a vertical cavity incorporates, inside the cavity (25), at least one electro-optical element able to tune the wavelength ( lambda ) of the laser amplifier. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a matrix of components incorporating at least two such tuneable laser amplifiers; (b) a high output telecommunications system incorporating such a laser amplifier co-operating with a fibre optic; and (c) the production of a laser amplifier with a vertical cavity.
