To fit a tubeless pneumatic tire (4) on to a wheel (3), the tire is fitted with a marking (11) to show the extreme value of a parameter with a variation around the tire circumference. During the initial inflation phase, at least a zone of the tire bead is retained under the wheel rim (7) which is on a bearing orientation related to the marking.
