The exhaust gas heat exchanger (100) has a guide portion provided in a water passage for leading the cooling water colliding with the inner wall of a tank (102) toward the upstream side of the exhaust gas passages (101). A cooling water inlet pipe (104) is disposed on the tank to ensure flow of cooling water into the tank. A cooling water outlet pipe (105) is disposed on the tank to ensure the exhaustion of cooling water from the tank. The water passage is formed in the tank to ensure flow of cooling water in the tank and to exchange heat with the exhaust gas passing through the exhaust gas passages. The exhaust gas, generated by combustion, flows through the exhaust gas passages which have flat sectional shapes and which are laminated to be disposed parallel with each other.
