The method of controlling badge operated (B1,2) hands free locking of a motor vehicle has the badge giving an access zone and a starting zone (Zd) extending into the vehicle interior via antennae. The badge activates the lock and release operation and starting of the vehicle selectively following one or other of the zones. The starting operation can be initiated by manual operation of the badge once inside the vehicle.
