Device comprises jaws (2a, 2b) that cooperate with first (11a) and second (11b) ends of a material sample (1). The sample has a controlled volatile compound composition. To preserve sample composition the device has a sheath (3) that encloses and seals it off from the outside atmosphere. Accordingly the sheath has ends (3a, 3b) that cooperate with the jaws of the device. The invention also relates to a corresponding test method.
