Asynchronous frame receiver for frames that begin with a break character that comprises a fixed number of bits of the same value. The device has means allowing hot connection to an asynchronous data bus. The receiver comprises: break character detection means (SM, FWM); and means for: (1) quitting an idle state (IDLE) when a break character has been detected and (2) switching to at least one operating mode in which the determined characters of an asynchronous frame can be detected by the frame receiver. The invention also relates to a corresponding hot connection method for use with an asynchronous data bus.
