Flood-resistant building has floating base and guide columns that allow it to rise on surface of floodwaters

The building (10), such as a house or workshop, is able to move between two positions - one resting on the ground and the pother floating above it on the surface of floodwater. It has a frame (12) on a buoyant base (14), and guides in the form of two or more vertical columns (32) implanted in the ground and rising inside the building in a median plane parallel to the flow of likely floodwater. The interior of the building has sleeves that conceal the columns, which are high enough to accommodate a maximum floodwater depth plus a safety margin, and contain flexible mains supply cables and pipes.
