The child car seat identification method has a transmitter/receiver unit (3) sending radio signals out. The child seat responds with a modified radio signal. The returned modified radio signal is processed in a processor (1). Between the sampling instants in the processor, time is available for other tasks. The evaluation of the radio signal is made following completion of the sampling. Preferably successively different radio frequencies are used in the identification process, up to a maximum of six frequencies. An Independent claim is included for a device for implementing the identification method.
