Production of a decorated plastic covering having mat or gloss relief effects comprises undercoating a plastisol-impregnated textile substrate with a foamable composition, printing a design on the undercoat, coating the product with a transparent antiwear coating, heating to pregel the surface layer, printing the surface with an ink containing a foaming inhibitor, allowing the inhibitor to migrate into the undercoat, and heating to gel the surface layer and foam the undercoat. Production of a decorated plastic covering having mat or gloss relief effects comprises impregnating a reinforcing textile structure with a plastisol, undercoating the resulting substrate with a foamable composition, printing a design on the undercoat, coating the product with a transparent antiwear coating, heating the product to pregel the surface layer without foaming the undercoat, printing the surface with an ink containing a foaming inhibitor, allowing the inhibitor to migrate into the undercoat, and heating the product to gel the surface layer and foam the undercoat.
