Production of p-xylene, o-xylene from hydrocarbon feed by simulated moving bed adsorption in first chromatography column to produce raffinate, o-xylene and m-xylene comprises distilling raffinate to remove desorbent, separating o- and m-xylene in second chromatography column (17) and distilling extract or raffinate containing o-xylene to remove desorbent and recover o-xylene with purity above 98.5%. Production of p-xylene and o-xylene from a hydrocarbon feed (1) by simulated moving bed adsorption in a first chromatography column (6) to produce a raffinate (5) comprising desorbent, o-xylene and m-xylene comprises distilling the raffinate to remove the desorbent, separating the o- and m-xylene in a second chromatography column (17) and distilling the extract or raffinate containing o-xylene to remove desorbent and recover o-xylene with a purity above 98.5%.
