The cup, designed to be implanted in a cotyloid cavity to receive the head (25) of a femoral implant (27) of an artificial hip joint, comprises a first hemispherical shell (3) with a bulge (9) in its outer surface, connected to the tip of the shell by an elastically deformable zone that allows the bulge to be fitted into a circular recess (11) made in the wall of the cavity, and a second rigid shell (5) that is fixed inside the first shell and prevents any deformation of the latter. The two shells have shaped surfaces that engage with one another in an intermediate position before final fitting, and the first shell's bulge hase surface grooves and/or teeth that promote adhesion with the annular recess.
