A honeycomb structure (1) is formed in two zones (2a,2b) on either side of a watertight base plate (6) and is in external contact with the plates of a fuel cell or thermal exchanger. Each of the two zones is constructed from metallic layers (8) which have networks of passages (10). The layers are made by selectively hardening metallic powder by laser and removing the residue. Fluid enters (A,B), leaves (D1,D2) and is diffused (C1,C2)
