The remote control cable comprises a metal core (22) inside a solid metal outer sleeve (18), e.g. of stainless steel, with an external spiral-wound drive member (19) fixed to its outer surface. The core is separated from the sleeve by an insulating filling material (24), such as alumina powder. The core (22) contains at least one electrical conductor to feed a measuring probe and pass back signals, and the cable is driven by a push-pull arrangement with a rotating nut engaging with the spiral drive member (19).
