The key comprises an oblong body (1) of metal or plastics material with a chamfered hole (4) and a recess (11) at one end into which a key ring may be fitted. The recess is closed off by a toothed articulated lug (3), normally maintained in the closed position by a spring (10). The other end of the key is in the form of a circular head portion (7) which may be inserted into the lock mechanism of a self-service shopping cart to release it. The key may carry a logo or publicity information on its sides.
