An operating variable of the engine other than the engine rotation speed is determined. The operating variable is compared to a pre-given threshold. The end of the operation start is detected when the operating variable reaches or exceeds the threshold value. An Independent claim is also included for arrangement detection for end of a starting operation of an internal combustion engine of the motor vehicle.
