Method for controlling i.c. engine torque utilizes operating ignition advance angle less than minimum allowed advance angle for time less than maximum time allowed for operation at advance angle less than minimum
The engine torque is controlled by acting on the ignition advance. A minimum intermediate ignition advance angle (IGAMINTEG) is determined between the shimmed speed where the engine does not produce any power and a nominal advance angle (IGAo) close to the advance angle corresponding to the maximum torque for a given engine speed. The maximum time allowed during which engine operation with an ignition advance (IGA-MIN) less than the minimum advance angle allowed is determined. Then, for a required variation of the torque, the engine is operated with an ignition advance angle less than the minimum advance angle for a time less than or equal to the maximum allowed time.
