Roller cone drill bit with bit monitoring system and linked telemetry system

A roller cone drill bit has a bit monitoring system and an actuation system to communicate from the monitoring system to the surface. Each leg of the bit has a first port 4083 in communication with its central fluid bore and a second port 4085 in communication with the wellbore. The actuation system is disposed between these ports and comprises a piston 4092 and cylinder 4094 connected to a signal nozzle 4088. The cylinder operates in response to the monitoring system to generate fluid pressure pulses that are expelled into the central fluid bore via the signal nozzle to transfer data to the surface. The piston may be actuated by a pyrotechnic charge triggered in response to resistive heating of an electrical component.
