A deepwater oil and gas well drilling system for the drilling and completion of a single well has a two marine riser sections 1,2 capable of housing two wholly independent sections of drillstring, electric logging equipment and/or casing. The riser sections serve two independent pipe-handling derricks 4,5 and are joined at their bases by a Y -shaped junction 3 so that a single latch connection is made to a subsea blowout preventer 6. The marine riser sections are manufactured from continuous, or semi-continuous, sections of flexible pressure-containing pipe and incorporate secondary surface blowout preventers 14,16 and side-entry ports 15,17.
