PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating water glass wastewater which comprises a process for the biodegradation of the water glass wastewater by alkalophilic/alkali-resistant microorganisms propagating on granular activated carbon (GAC) having the water glass wastewater without performing any pH adjustment beforehand. PSOLUTION: This method is related to the collection of the alkalophilic/alkali-resistant microorganisms and to the use of the microorganisms for water glass wastewater treatment. The wastewater is directly treated with the alkalophilic/alkali-resistant microorganisms propagated on the GAC without performing any pH adjustment beforehand. Subsequently, water glass is separated from the biologically treated water by lowering the pH of the water, or, as the boiling point of water is different from that of the water glass, the water glass is separated from the biologically treated water by distilling the water.
