PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily determining the flexural yield strength of a thin plate steel member without considering the effective width of every plate element.;SOLUTION: In this flexural yield strength evaluation method for the thin plate steel member having a plate thickness of 0.4 mm to 2.3 mm, the yield strength My in a fully effective section is given by the product of the strength F of the material and the section modulus Z in the fully effective section. The elastic buckling yield strength Mcr of the member is given by a numerical analysis such as finite-element analysis, and the design flexural yield strength Mu of the member is calculated according to the equation Mu/My=(Mcr/My)α[a-b(Mcr/My)β] by use of My and Mcr.
