PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make sub-data other than main data recordable or reproducible without affecting entirely the constitution of a normal reproducing system and signal processing.;SOLUTION: The main data and the sub-data are respectively subjected to encoding processing of error correction by ECC (error correcting code) encoders 2a and 2b. The main data are modulated by an 8-16 modulation part 3. In a synchronizing signal adding part 7, a selected pattern among a plurality of patterns is added as the synchronizing signal in accordance with a conversion table stored in a table memory 4. In a specified section preset on an optical disk, a switch 13 is turned ON, and the selection of the pattern of the synchronizing signal is controlled according to a value of the sub-data, thereby the sub-data are recorded. The recording signal of an EFM Plus frame format is generated from the synchronizing signal adding part 7 and supplied to an optical pickup 9 through a recording circuit 8, then the main data and sub-data are recorded with respect to the optical disk 10.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
