PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multistage absorption refrigerator switchable into operation adequate for conditions depending on operating conditions, and a refrigerating system with the multistage absorption refrigerator. PSOLUTION: This two-stage absorption refrigerator 11 having the functions of an evaporator 1, a low pressure absorber 2, a high pressure absorber or a combined high pressure absorber and condenser 5, a low pressure regenerator 3, a high pressure regenerator 4 and a condenser 6. It comprises a control device 122 for switching between two-stage solution cycle operation and single-stage solution cycle operation in accordance with at least one condition of the temperature conditions of a cooling medium to be used for the functions of the low pressure absorber 3, the high pressure absorber or the combined high pressure absorber and condenser 5 and the condenser 6, the temperature conditions of the cooling medium for cooling the evaporator 1 and the loading conditions of the cooling medium.
