PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high-density iron-based sintered compact, wherein the degree of progress of finish sintering at a relatively low temperature is high while the reduction in manufacturing cost of the sintered compact, especially the prevention of cost increase due to press molding, is realized and to provide a compression molded product for sintering which is used in producing such an iron-based sintered compact.;SOLUTION: The method for producing an iron-based sintered compact comprises subjecting an iron-based metallic powder to powder compression molding and pre-sintering to give a preform and subjecting the preform to cold forging and finish sintering. In the method, the distortion quantity of the cold-forged, compression molded product is measured, and the sintering conditions are changed according to the results of the measurement. Desirably, the distortion of the compressed molding is determined from the half width of the X-ray diffraction line of the Fe(200) face of the compression molded product by nondestructive testing, especially X-ray diffractometry.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
