PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly monitor or control a printed color tone by reducing the influence of the change in behavior of printing paper on a measured value, decreasing a measurement error, and doing precise measurement when a printed pattern is measured directly.;SOLUTION: The color or the optical density of each printed pattern in the traveling printing paper is measured, and the positional displacement of each printed pattern from a reference sample is measured. The measured color or the optical density of the printed pattern is compared with a reference value corresponding to the measured positional displacement of the printed pattern from the reference sample to calculate a color difference or an optical density difference, or the the measured color or the optical density of the printed pattern is corrected by a correction function for correcting the change of the measured color or the optical density of the printed pattern by the positional displacement from the reference sample and compared with the value of the reference sample, so that the color difference or the optical density difference is calculated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
