PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely correct distortion only about a region defined as a part where the distortion is caused without erroneously deciding an inappropriate point (definitely the point of a curved part) as a boundary point even when a book document is slackened and a slack is caused in the page contour. PSOLUTION: The boundary point between the linear part and the curved part of the page contour is detected on the basis of information regarding positional relation between an approximate straight line and the page contour (steps S21 to S34) and the distortion of a scanned picture is corrected on the basis of the detected boundary point between the linear part and the curved part of the page contour. Thus, since the boundary point between the linear part and the curved part of the page contour is detected on the basis of the information regarding the positional relation between the page contour in which the slack is caused and the approximate straight line even when the book document is slackened and the slack is caused in the page contour, the inappropriate point (definitely the point of the curved part) is not erroneously decided as the boundary point and distortion correction is surely performed only about the area defined as the part in which the distortion is caused.
