PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic meshing method for spiral bevel gears allowing easy meshing of the spiral bevels without damage.;SOLUTION: The first gear 2 and the second gear 3 of a pair of spiral bevel gear trains in a meshed state are moved in the meshing releasing direction, and a relation between the moved distance of the first gear 2 and the second gear 3 in the separating direction and the amount of rotation of the second gear 3 following the rotation of the first gear 2 is continuously stored. When the first gear 2 is meshed with the second gear 3, based on the stored information, at least one of the first gear 2 and the second gear 3 is moved in a direction for moving these gears close to each other, and meshed by rotating in a meshing rotating direction.
