PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new culture method for increasing the proliferation rate of nitrifying bacteria and a culture apparatus.;SOLUTION: The culture method for nitrifying bacteria contains the adjustment of pH of the culture liquid. Ammonia liquid is added to the culture liquid interlocked with the addition of the alkaline liquid for pH adjustment in the case of controlling the lowering of pH of the culture liquid. The molar ratio of OH- ion of the alkaline liquid and NH4+-N (ammoniacal nitrogen) of the ammonia liquid to be added to the culture liquid (OH-:NH4+-N) is 2:1 to 1.5:1. The concentration of nitrite ion (NO2-) in the culture liquid is continuously determined and the supply of ammonia is stopped when the accumulation of nitrite ion exceeds a preset level.
