PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize frictional characteristics for a long period and prevent the wear of a friction material as a counter member.;SOLUTION: The drawing shows a front view of a separator plate 2 as one of friction engagement elements for a wet multiple disc clutch. In the shown example, a small irregular pattern 21 inclined to a clockwise direction is formed on a friction face 20 of the separator plate 2. It is acceptable that the small irregular pattern is in any shape such as a diagonally patterned shape, not limiting to the shown example. Oil is held in the irregular pattern to produce cooling effects. The sharp angles of protruded portions protruded to the other are removed by roller thrust and the front ends thereof are formed flat, thereby preventing the wear of the friction material as the counter member and maintaining stable frictional characteristics for a long period. The height of the irregular pattern is desirably 0.1μm to 3μm at a plateau rate of 5-60.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
