PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide titanium oxide porous sintered compact which can be used as a material in a metal titanium production method by direct electrolytic reduction and by which the formation efficiency of metal titanium can be improved and also to provide its manufacturing method.;SOLUTION: The sintered compact comprises: a titanium oxide porous sintered compact which has 20 to 65% porosity and (0.1 to 5.0)m2/cm3 specific surface area and in which the volume ratio of pores having 0.3 to 100μm diameter is made to ≥10%; and the above porous sintered compact having ≥60 Hv hardness. In the method for manufacturing the titanium oxide porous sintered compact, titanium oxide powder of 0.2 to 2,000μm particle size is used, pressurized at 9.8 to 78.5 MPa to undergo compaction into prescribed shape and then sintered at 1,100 to 1,500°C for 0.5 to 10 h or 0.1 to 40% of titanium suboxide is further added to the above titanium oxide powder and sintering is performed at 900 to 1,400°C for 0.5 to 10 h.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
