PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct inspection and repair for maintenance of a civil engineering facility for emphasizing cost performance of the inspection and the repair, and for minimizing an expected life cycle cost of the degraded facility, since the degradation of the civil engineering facility causes a heavy burden on users of the facility because of the degradation of the facility, and the inspection and the repair of the degradation of the facility need much cost.;SOLUTION: Data of degradation inspection of the civil engineering facility are acquired. A degradation indicator is calculated based on the data of the degradation inspection. The cost for repairing the degradation and a cost chargeable on the users are calculated according to the degradation indicator. The expected life cycle costs, when degradation repair is carried out at an early stage and when the timing of the degradation repair are determined, are calculated respectively, by using a second Fredholm type integral equation. The expected life cycle cost when the degradation repair is carried out at the early stage, and the expected life cycle cost when the timing for the degradation repair is determined based on a result of the next degradation inspection, are compared to determine the timing for degradation repair of the civil engineering facility.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
