PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic material which efficiently absorbs two photons, i.e. has a large two-photon absorption cross section. PSOLUTION: A nonresonant two-photon absorption material contains a compound of formula (1) or (2) (wherein RSP11/SP-RSP16/SPand RSP21/SP-RSP24/SPare each hydrogen atom or a substituent, some of which may be bound to each other to form a ring; mSP1/SPand nSP1/SPare each an integer of 0-4; RSP17/SPand RSP25/SPare each a substituent; iSP1/SPand iSP2/SPare each an integer of 0-4; XSP11/SPand XSP12/SPare identical to or different from each other and are each a (non)substituted aryl group or a (non)substituted heterocyclic group; mSP2/SPand nSP2/SPare each an integer of 1-4; RSP26/SPand RSP27/SPare each hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, an aryl group or a heterocyclic group; and ZSP21/SPand ZSP22/SPare each independently a group of atoms required for forming a 5- or 6-membered ring containing nitrogen).
