PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polymerizable liquid crystal compound exhibiting liquid crystallinity at a low temperature, excellent in thermal stability and having a large birefringence difference, and to provide a liquid crystalline composition, a cholesteric liquid crystal composition, an optical film and an image display device using the same.;SOLUTION: The polymerizable terphenyl liquid crystal compound represented by general formula (1) is provided. The polymerizable terphenyl liquid crystal compound exhibits liquid crystallinity at a low temperature, is excellent in thermal stability and has a large birefringence difference. The optical film obtained by using the polymerizable terphenyl liquid crystal compound allows thickness reduction and productivity improvement of a liquid crystal display.
