PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of measuring the degree of similarity in object extraction/area division results that can obtain the degree of similarity for indicating a level of the similarity in results obtained by various kinds of object extracting techniques and area dividing techniques.;SOLUTION: This object extracted/area-division result integration part 1 investigates a correspondence relation between the both results, using as inputs the two object extraction results, or the object extraction result and the area division result, or the two object area division results obtained by the two different techniques as to a specified image, and calculates indexes based on the number of areas. A similarity degree calculating part 2 calculates the degree of similarity for the object extracted/area-division results, using a similarity degree function that is a function of the index D based on the number of areas, a similarity degree L of positional information and a degree S of similarity in a shape expression using the index D, the similarity degree L and the degree S of similarity as inputs. The degree of similarity in estimation of object encoding is obtained when the degree of similarity C in the degree of encoding difficulty is input.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
