PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method which can inexpensively produce basic magnesium carbonate in the form of agglomerated particles having a specific configuration and can decrease impurities; and a composition and or structure containing the basic magnesium carbonate.;SOLUTION: This production method comprises: preparing a magnesium hydrogencarbonate solution by introducing a carbon dioxide-containing gas into a magnesium hydroxide suspension; adding an alkaline substance to the magnesium hydrogencarbonate solution to adjust its pH to 7.5-11.0; generating columnar particles of ortho-magnesium carbonate at 20-55°C; adding the alkaline substance to the resultant columnar particle suspension to adjust its pH to 9.0-12.0; and adjusting the temperature of this suspension to 30-75°C and keeping the temperature in this range to form basic magnesium carbonate, thus producing the objective basic magnesium carbonate which is tubular agglomerated particles comprising flaky microcrystals.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
