METHOD FOR OPERATING SIDE-BLOWING REFINING FURNACE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a side-blowing refining furnace for extending the durable service life of a refractory in a vessel.;SOLUTION: In an AOD (argon-oxygen decarburization) furnace 10 with a side-blowing tuyere 20 nearly horizontally arranged on the furnace wall opposite to a steel tapping side, when the blowing is performed by blowing gas for refining into molten steel from this side-blowing tuyere 20, a vertical axis P of the vessel 12 being the main body of the AOD furnace 10 is inclined so that the side-blowing tuyere 20 becomes upward to the vertical line S. The gas is blown into the molten steel from the side-blowing tuyere 20 becoming upward to the direction separated from the lining brick 18 at the upper part of this side-blowing tuyere 20. In this way, the stirring of the molten steel near the lining brick 18 at the upper part of the side-blowing tuyere 20 is reduced and the erosion of the lining brick 18 is restrained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
