PURPOSE: To obtain a film-forming material which is prepared by suspending zinc oxide and titanium oxide each having specific surface area of a certain value in water and adjusting the average dispersion particle size to less than a specific value, thus is suitably used as a protective film for fluorescent lamps, because the material forms a dense and continuous protective film by coating. ;CONSTITUTION: Zinc oxide of more than 6m²/g specific surface area and/or titanium oxide of more than 9m²/g specific surface area are added to water containing a carboxylate salt type surfactant and the mixture is stirred, for example, by means of a sand grinder for 1 minutes to 2 hours to prepare a slurry of less than 1500 angstroms dispersion particle size whereby the objective material for forming metal oxide film is obtained. The slurry is combined with an acrylic resin emulsion and applied to a glass plate 2 to form the protective film 1 comprising particles 3 of zinc oxide and/or titanium oxide whereby the objective metallic film such as the dense and continuous protective film suitable for protecting fluorescent lamps is obtained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
