PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate whether or not an opposite terminal is its own terminal before starting communication of a connection sequence.;SOLUTION: In the case of starting, a required socket is opened by a well- known port and by a port unique to a main terminal to await a connection of a TCP. A UDP socket for video/audio data is opened at a decided port at the same time (S201). Then a caller terminal B uses a unique port to try a TCP connection first (S202). When the connection fails, the opposite party is discriminated to be one of other terminals, a TCP connection is tried to the well-known port as usual (S203) and connection is made by a usual connection sequence. When the TCP connection to the unique port is made successfully, the opposite party is discriminated to be its own terminal and image/audio data are sent/received by the video/audio socket to omit the conventional connection sequence and image/audio communication (S205) is started.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
