PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To analyze polychlorinated biphenyls in an insulating oil, in particular less chlorinated polychloro biphenyls, with high efficiency by simple and inexpensive pretreatment of a short time. SOLUTION: In this method for analyzing polychlinated biphenyls(PCB) contaminated in an insulating oil by a gas chromatography with a mass spectrograph, the PCB is extracted from the insulating oil of an examined sample using a polar solvent, the PCB-extracted polar solvent is passed through a solid phase extractor to separate a PCB fraction, and pretreatment is carried out to transfer the PCB from the PCB fraction into a volatile solvent.
