PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network by which a method and a device for automatically defining a topology of the network are adopted.;SOLUTION: A link advertisement message is transmitted from respective ports to respective switches in the network (without processing intervention due to intermediate switches). The link advertisement message is received by the adjacent switch and sent to a topology manager. The topology manager constitutes network topology profile information based on the received link advertisement message.
