PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an object constituted of a syntactic foam. PSOLUTION: The method includes a step which spreads a granular resin and the layer of a mixture containing a microballoon through all surface areas. A part of the mixture is selectively heated so that at least part of the mixture may take the shape desired for at least part of the object. The heating is continued until the time when the resin flows, leading to wet the microballoon, and a solid is formed. By this method, a finished part can be manufactured by one sintering operation with almost non-machining or completely without machining later. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
