PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify geometric coordinates with a numeral consisting of a small number of digits by representing a specific point of geography with a combination of area information showing an area by neither longitude nor latitude and subdivided point information in the area information. ;SOLUTION: A list of the names of administrative areas is displayed by operating a touch switch 34, one of the displayed names is selected, and its administrative area information is inputted and stored in a RAM 5. With the touch switch 34, the minute and second numerals of the point are inputted and stored in the RAM 5. Then the east longitude and north latitude corresponding to the administrative area information are read out of an administsrative area data file and stored in the RAM 5. Further, the point information of minutes and seconds is contrasted with correction reference data in an administrative area data file. When the point information of the minutes and seconds is in the area shown by the correction reference data, the east longitude value and/or north latitude value corresponding to the read administrative area information is corrected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
