PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device, by which the communication capability of a shared medium for data transmission can be assigned in a many-to-one network, in which the shared medium is provided to a plurality of terminating equipment and a network-side medium access controller, which assigns the transmission capacity of the medium to the terminating equipment is provided.;SOLUTION: The method includes a step of classifying data to be transmitted through a medium into a first category, when the data are in conformity with a designated standard or into a second category when the data are not in conformity with the standard; a step of assigning the transmitting capacity of the medium to the first-category data by means of a medium access controller; and a step of transmitting the first-category data via the medium by taking the transmitting capacity into consideration by means of terminating equipment. The method also includes a step of releasing at least partially a usable unused transmitting capacity for transmitting the second-category data and a step of transmitting the second-category data within the released transmitting capacity via the medium.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
