PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To authenticate and distribute/register an electronic information cipher key between a server and a user, based only on a user's password concealed and shared in advance between the server and the user in a process of transmitting/receiver data through a network, and encipher/decipher data transmitted/received, using the electronic information cipher key as a secret key on a symmetric key cipher algorithm.;SOLUTION: The data security maintaining method comprises the steps of generating a trial value of a server according to a connection request signal from a client, sending the trial value to the client, receiving answer values from both clients, receiving an ID from the client, calculating an answer value expected by the client from a password and a trial value corresponding to the ID, comparing with the answer value and authenticating the client, generating an electronic information cipher key; if the authentication result is valid, generating a secret key for enciphering that key, enciphering the key with the secret key used as an element on a symmetric key enciphering algorithm, sending the enciphered key to the client, enciphering electronic information with the secret key used as an element, and sending the enciphered electronic information to the client.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
