PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preserving solution for a nitrifying bacteria immobilized membrane enabling a longer period of preservation, and a method of preserving an ammonium oxidizing bacteria immobilized membrane providing for the uniform preservability of an ammonium oxidizing bacteria immobilized membrane and enabling a longer period of preservation.;SOLUTION: Oxalacetic acid is included in the preserving solution for a nitrifying bacteria immobilized membrane. The concentration of the oxalacetic acid is preferably 0.5-2 mM. To preserve an ammonium oxidizing bacteria immobilized membrane, the amount that the ammonium oxidizing bacteria immobilized membrane immobilizes fungal bodies is adjusted to 2.5×106-5.0×108 pieces/mm2 and the oxalacetic acid concentration of the preserving solution for the ammonium oxidizing bacteria immobilized membrane is adjusted to 0.5-2 mM. Preferably, ammonium oxidizing bacteria are dyed with a tetrazolium salt and the absorbance of formazan that forms in the ammonium oxidizing bacteria is measured so as to determine the culture age of the ammonium oxidizing bacteria in a culture solution and measure the number concentration of living bacteria, to thereby adjust the amount that the ammonium oxidizing bacteria immobilized membrane immobilizes fungal bodies.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
