PURPOSE: To provide a setting retarder of concrete to be used before a setting accelerator is added by which concrete is used at an opportune moment by the joint use of a setting accelerator and to place a quick-setting concrete using the retarder. ;CONSTITUTION: A slaked lime-contg. material and org. acid are used as the effective components. The concrete setting retarder does not contain a setting accelerator. The setting retarder with the slaked lime-contg. material and org. acid as the effective components is mixed with a concrete not contg. a setting accelerator, the setting accelerator is mixed immediately before the concrete is used, and the concrete is placed.
