PURPOSE: To automatically align rolled metal sheets by detecting their rolling direction and accurately aligning the rolled metal sheets with a high accuracy. ;CONSTITUTION: A laser spot light projection device 2 projects laser spot light to the surface of a rolled metal sheet 1 being placed on a rotary table 10. The laser spot light is scattered by a rolling line formed on the surface of the rolled metal sheet 1 on rolling. The scattered light is reflected by a half mirror 3 and is projected on a translucent screen 4 to form a bright line. The image of the bright line is picked up by a CCD camera 6 through a shooting lens 5 and the direction of the inertial main axis of the above bright line is detected by an image processing device 7. A rotary control device 8 controls a rotary table mechanism 9 of the rotary table 10 so that the angle between the direction of the detected principal axis of inertial and the preset alignment direction of the rolled metal plate 1 become zero.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
