PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel chitosan derivative that causes no invasion into a space between horny cell layers and is excellent in affinity and safety to skin and clathrate forming property, and is useful in cosmetics. ;SOLUTION: This compound is represented by the formula [R₁ is COCH₂OX (X is α, β or γ-cyclodextrin skeleton), CH₂H₂OX; R₂ is H, CH₂COOH: (a), (b) are integers containing zero; (c) is an integer of 1 or more; 5a+b+c100; c/(a+b+c)≥0.05]. The compound of the formula is prepared by reaction between carboxy-β-cyclodextrin and a chitosan acetate salt (with an average molecular weight of 7,300 and a deacetylation degree of 72%) in the presence of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
