FRAME COMPRESSION USING CARDINAL APPROXIMATION OR DIFFERENTIAL CODE AND ESCAPE CODE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize frame compression using cardinal approximation or differen tial codes and an escape code.;SOLUTION: Formation of a frame sequence is compressed by not only rounding and truncating luminance values but also using a cardinal tree and a pallet to encode chrominance values. Each entry of the pallet holds information which represents a color actually appearing in the frame sequence at least once. The cardinal tree provides not only an efficient generation method for generating compressed expressions of colors held in the pallet but also a method for discriminating colors nearest to colors in data streams, which are not held in the pallet, in the pallet.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
