PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely put a page to be read out into focus range so as to provide a reading device of easy handling by constituting this reading device of an image display means displaying a picked up image sent from an image pickup means, and making the height of a placing face of a placing base adjustable. ;SOLUTION: A placing base device 22 placing a reading object 21 thereon is detachably mounted on a first placing base 2. The placing base device 22 is constituted of a mounting plate 23 fitted onto the first placing base 2, and a second placing base 24 provided on the mounting plate 23. When the placing base device 22 is fitted onto the first placing base 2, a distance from the upper face of the first placing base 2 to the placing face 24a of the second placing base 24 is set an equal distance to the focus range L of an image pickup lens. In this constitution, focusing for reading can be made possible only by a simple operation to adjust the height of the placing base, and hence usability for a visually handicapped person can be improved.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
